Joey Dix

Joey was part of the Cape York NRM team from July 2019 to April 2022 as NRM Engagement Officer.

He spent his youth growing up on Cape York before heading to Brisbane to complete his senior schooling at St Peters Lutheran College, graduating Year 12 in 2013.

After graduating, Joey returned to Cape York with a passion to work in natural resource management. He took up the opportunity of employment in remote Cape communities as an Environmental Officer, working in conjunction with Rio Tinto on rehabilitation programs such as their Community Seed Collection Program.

Joey proudly holds a strong connection to Cape York having both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, with Traditional Ownership of areas around the McIlwraith Range through the Winchinam clan from Wik Waya southern Kaanju and the Yaedakanu clan out of Gudang along the North East Coast.

As NRM Engagement Officer, Joey worked closely with Cape York organisations and land managers, land trusts, Indigenous groups, local government, conservation sectors and Traditional Owners to help reach a common goal of sustainable natural resource management on Cape York.
