Protected Area Coordinator – National Parks (NP) Cape York Peninsula
Aboriginal Land (CYPAL)
Location: Coen, Cape York Peninsula
Reports to: QPWS and Cape York NRM Program Manager - Biodiversity
Employment terms: Full-time 37.5hrs/week, 12- month fixed term contract with potential for extension
Annual salary: $90,000 with 5 weeks annual leave plus 17.5% annual leave loading. Remote incentive allowance and accommodation and vehicle provided
This position will support the delivery of joint management, natural resource management and on-ground operational activities on Oyala Thumotang NP (CYPAL) and KULLA NP (CYPAL). This role works closely with Land Trust Rangers and Land Trust Directors for Oyala Thumotang Land Trust and KULLA Land Trust Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) staff and other stakeholders to support the effective management of Protected Areas under Indigenous Management Agreements.
The Protected Area Coordinator NP CYPAL plays a key role in coordinating field-based activities, supporting Ranger work programs, facilitating stakeholder engagement and assisting with the delivery of environmental and land management projects.
The position supports operational planning, work crew coordination, training facilitation, reporting and the implementation of park management priorities across remote and culturally significant landscapes.
The Protected Area Coordinator NP CYPAL works collaboratively with Land Trusts, Traditional Owners and operational partners, and contributes to activities including pest and weed management, fire management, biodiversity and environmental monitoring, infrastructure maintenance and other natural resource management priorities.
The position also assists with logistical coordination, compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and the maintenance of productive working relationships between Land Trust Rangers, Directors and QPWS staff.
This role requires strong communication, organisational and relationship management skills, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in remote and challenging field environments across Cape York Peninsula as well as the ability to work flexible hours inclusive of weekends dependent on the requirements of the project.
